DESCRIPTION:We all desire for young people to encounter Christ and to follow Him. Please plan on joining the Secretariat for Evangelization and Discipleship and Andrew Ministries for important discussions on the Archdiocese of Boston’s vision for youth ministry. Pastors and parish teams (staff and volunteers) are invited to attend one of the sessions (9/26\, 9/27\, or 9/28) that works best for you. \n  \nAs the Archdiocese of Boston is preparing to lower the age for the Sacrament of Confirmation\, this will have an impact on how we minister to our young people across our respective ministries. The Archdiocese of Boston is excited to announce a partnership with Everett Fritz and Andrew Ministries. All ministry leaders (clergy\, DREs\, YMs\, and volunteers) are encouraged to attend a seminar with Everett Fritz on one of 3 dates. In these presentations\, we will discuss the Archdiocese of Boston’s vision for youth ministry and how we intend to support your efforts with young people.

Effective ministry to young people does not depend upon large budgets and paid staff to meet the needs of our youth. All pastors/priests/clergy are encouraged to attend a presentation on “The Art of Forming Young Disciples\,” by leading youth ministry expert\, Everett Fritz. During this presentation\, we will begin to discuss our long-term strategy for youth and campus ministry in the Archdiocese and how we are preparing to support this effort.

Since 2020\, he has served as Secretary for the New Evangelization for the Diocese of Fall River\, aiding parishes in the areas of evangelization\, catechesis and parish life. Holding a Master’s degree in Religious Education from Fordham University and his Bachelors from Siena College\, he resides in Fall River with his wife and three young children.

DESCRIPTION:As you have likely seen in a letter from the Cardinal\, an article in the Boston Pilot\, or an article in the Boston Globe\, the Cardinal has decided to lower the normal age of reception of the sacrament of Confirmation in the Archdiocese of Boston from around the age of 16\, or 10th or 11th grade\, to around the ages of 13-14\, or 8th grade. The text of the official decree implementing the change is forthcoming. \nOur team is hosting listening sessions for pastors and faith formation leaders to get initial thoughts and questions about implementing this change in your parishes. (Please select a session based on the time and location that works best for you.) During Easter 2024\, we will release recommendations and guidance for implementing this change based on our conversations with you. \nIn advance of the sessions\, please begin to consider: \n\nWhat does it mean to be prepared to receive the sacrament of Confirmation?\nWhat opportunities does this change present for family and youth ministry in your parish?\nHow can the archdiocese support you throughout implementing this change?

DESCRIPTION:We invite all faith formation leaders and catechists to a morning of reflection. Consider coming as a parish group and join other catechists from around the archdiocese for Mass\, breakfast\, a talk by Susan Abbott\, and fellowship. \nReturn to your parish affirmed in your important ministry\, strengthened through prayer\, and encouraged by brothers and sisters in Christ. We are hosting the morning of reflection on Saturday\, 9/16\, in hopes that the next day you’ll celebrate Catechetical Sunday\, 9/17\, at your parish! \nSusan Abbott is one of two Directors of the Our Lady of Good Voyage Shrine in the Seaport area of Boston.  She was the Director of the Office of Religious Education of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston for many years\, serving in that office in several capacities since 1999 and before that working in parish-based religious education starting in 1981. She has served on the boards of the National Conference of Catechetical Leadership and the National Association of Catechetical Media Professionals\, and was a member of the New England Conference of Diocesan Directors of Religious Education. She is a prior recipient of the Sister Marian O’Connor Award for Excellence in Catechetical Leadership. Susan is also a former chairperson of the board of directors of Massachusetts Citizens for Life. Susan was born and has lived in Boston her entire life\, except for one year when she and her husband lived in Germany while he was a Fulbright Fellow. A widow since 2002\, she has four children\, three daughters and one son\, of whom she says their beauty\, brilliance\, and goodness defy description.
